Testing for a blue belt

Kyle has been taking Taekwondo classes for a little over a year now and he tested for his blue belt today. Part of the test required him to break the board with a tornado kick and he did really well. Ernie got some good action shots.

Birthdays

My nephew's birthday was yesterday and mine is Wednesday so we celebrated together this weekend. We had pizza from one of the best pizza places around (Roberto's) and my mom got us a fruit tarte for our birthday cake.

Very good!

It's not a boat

This weekend Kyle got to tour the USS Nimitz at the Naval Base in San Diego. Mike, a family member, is assigned to the ship and was able to get us on board and showed us around. The ship was having maintenance work done so we weren't able to go in certain areas but we got to see the hospital, bridge, flag bridge and flight deck which were many flights of stairs and many "step overs" (that's what I'm calling them since I can't remember what Mike said they were) away from each other. We also got to eat dinner there and the food wasn't bad at all.

It amazes me how these ships are able to stay afloat and accomodate thousands of people.

Tournament of Roses

First of all....Happy New Year!

For the first time in a while I was in bed by 10:00pm on New Year's eve. We decided to take Kyle to the Rose Parade this year and planned on leaving the house at around 5:00am. I'm not much of a morning person and getting out of bed while it's still dark is a big task for me, but I did it!

We surprisingly found a parking spot only a short block and a half from the parade route and a decent spot on the corner of an intersection to watch the parade from. We had an hour to wait before it started and had to endure many "excuse mes" (if we were lucky) when people wanted to get by to cross the street, but Kyle was well behaved and patient (thank goodness!).

I took alot of pictures so I'm only going to post a few of our favorites.
